About i heart pinktank

Hi, I’m Chelsea. Welcome to my blog. A bit about me…I’m a product designer and owner of Pink Tank. Things I heart: Playing… Reading... Conversating… Cooking… Smiling… TRAVELING… cruising on my sweeeet bike… making my house a home.

i heart: Anni Albers

The Crafting Modernism exhibition at MAD has me so inspired. I’ve been smitten with the textile design of Anni Albers ever since I first saw her work. The textures and color palettes are so beautiful. Some patterns are chunky and rugged while others are smooth and refined. I love them all!

A bit about Anni: She was a student of the Bauhaus and later emigrated to America with her husband Josef, a very well established artist. They both taught at Black Mountain College near Asheville, North Carolina. Her passion for design led her to develop many new weaving techniques and textile patterns. She wrote several essays and books on weaving in addition to exploring printmaking and jewelry design.

Curatorial Curiosities: Museum of Arts and Design – Crafting Modernism: Midcentury American Art and Design

There are so many amazing artists featured in this exhibition running October 11, 2011 – January 15, 2012. I loved seeing the handcrafted design that developed when most of the nation was focused on the machine age technological advances and mass production techniques. Below are a few favorites:

anni albers, sheep may safely graze

arthur smith, neckpiece

jack lenor larsen, bas relief

rude osolnik, turned bowl

stanley lechtzin, pendant 4c

ruth radakovich, cocktail ring

I’m strangely fascinated by that cocktail ring!

a tiny tour of Montreal

A few weeks back, I had the chance to go to Montreal with my best friend. So I did!

We explored old Montreal, new Montreal, Mount Royal, the architecture, the design, Quebec City, the funicular, the shopping scene, the tasty treats scene, the subway & even a bar or two.

It’s lovely there!

Tank You: Thank you to WORD!

We’d like to send out a special thanks to Christine at WORD, an independent bookstore in Greenpoint, Brooklyn for coming up with the brilliant idea to develop a custom bookmark with us! Check out this super stylish mark available now at WORD on the corner of Franklin and Milton…and while you’re there pick up a book or two from their very well curated collection.

For more on the quirky, wonderful world of Word check out this article in the New York Times.

and thanks to Jami Attenberg for the introduction!

pretty pretty Panama … part 2

A little late, but worth the wait 🙂

Here are a few more images from our trip to Panama. We went pretty far east to the San Blas Islands, where we took in the beauty of our surroundings by relaxing in a hammock or two. Then we hopped on a boat & a plane heading west to Bocas Del Toro. We explored the water, the jungle, the Kuna culture & some tasty food!

See you soon Panama!
